Save Azores Waves is a movement born from the profound respect that the Azoreans have for the sea — a source of life, culture, and island identity for nearly 600 years. Initiated by the Associação de Surf da Terceira and supported by the Save The Waves Coalition, this project aims to legally protect the waves of the Azores, valuing them as environmental, social, and economic heritage. Waves are much more than just leisure: they are living ecosystems, natural barriers, and drivers of sustainable development.
In the face of growing threats such as coastal construction and uncontrolled exploitation, Save Azores Waves works to raise awareness, educate, and mobilize the community. Through lectures, festivals, and conservation actions, we promote an active defense network for the waves of the archipelago. Our commitment is clear: protecting the ocean is protecting the future of the Azores — and of the planet.
